The Estate Planning Council of Diablo Valley is always interested in welcoming new members who will actively participate in our group. We encourage you to attend a meeting and meet our members. Meetings are for members and their guests. If you are new to our community and do not know a member who can sponsor you at a meeting, please contact the Council Office at (925) 686-4819 to make a reservation.
You must attend at least one meeting before applying for membership. Application for membership must be submitted within 90 days of attendance at a meeting by submitting a fully completed application, together with your initiation fee, to the Board of Directors. Please note that two current members of the Council in good standing must nominate you for membership.
Members are admitted at the discretion of the Board of Directors based on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Please take the time to review the Membership Guidelines set forth below before applying for membership.
MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES
Qualifications
In order to qualify for membership, the applicant must demonstrate that a significant portion of his/her business activities is devoted to the formulation and/or implementation of estate planning strategies and techniques or the administration of trusts and estates. This level of estate planning activity must be satisfied, regardless of the category of membership sought by the prospective member.
All members must have his/her place of business or residence in Contra Costa County, or have significant and continuing business contacts within Contra Costa County to the satisfaction of the Board of Directors.
Active Members
The Estate Planning Council of Diablo Valley’s Bylaws provide for the following five (5) active membership categories:
Attorney;
Certified Public Accountant (CPA);
Certified Financial Planner ( CFP);
Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) /Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU); or
Trust Officers/ Private Fiduciaries.
Active members must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in estate planning activities. The number of active members in each category is limited.
Associate Members
Associate members are those professionals who do not qualify as an active member, but who are clearly engaged in estate planning activities as defined above. Associate members are admitted solely at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
Please note that an applicant who may otherwise qualify as an active member may be temporarily admitted as an associate member pending an opening in the particular active membership category.
